Working With A Recruiter, What To Expect And What He/She Expects From You

Basic facts you need to know…

The recruiter's job:

Remember the professional recruiter's job is to fill a client's open position. They are "Job Opening" driven. You need to be there when they have an open position. It's our responsibility to get in contact with you ASAP.

Your goal should be to get on your professional recruiter's call list to hear about every new job opening in your industry.

Working with only one recruiter is the best approach to take on your part.

Use your recruiter as:
  • A member of your professional job-search network. They eyes and ears in the industry working for you.

Choose a professional recruiter who:

  • Works in your field of specialty.
  • Deals with the level and type of position you want.
  • Has a stellar reputation within your industry.
  • Passes a reference check.

Maintain a relationship with your professional recruiter by:
  • Giving occasional updates of your achievements, accomplishments, and increased responsibilities a few times a year.
  • Having periodic contacts, to check in, but not just small talk.
  • Expecting a give and take relationship.
  • You must be willing to respond expediently to avoid missing opportunities.
      Avoid unprofessional recruiters who:
  • Show unethical behavior
  • Charge the candidate a fee for their service.
  • Release your resume without permission.
  • Have a personal chemistry that doesn't "click" with yours.
  • If you have a problem with chemistry with any of our recruiters at PCG, please e-mail info@onlinepcg.com and we will find someone you can work with.

When communicating with a professional recruiter:

  • Use email. It's the easiest and the fastest for both parties.
  • Don't call for idle chit-chat.
  • Always give them updates on your personal career status.
  • Offer industry information that would be helpful to the professional recruiter.

Candidate Interview Preparation - Interviewing Tips

Preparation is the key to a successful interview. Thorough preparation enhances your chances of accomplishing the two main objectives of an interview.

The interviewer’s objective is to decide whether or not to make you a job offer by evaluating your history, educational background, your strengths and accomplishments, as well as your level of motivation, attitude and personality. In other words, to find out if you’re the right person for the job, what is your potential for promotion and whether or not you will fit into the company environment.

As the candidate your objective is to satisfy the interviewer’s objective, as well as learn those things you need to know about the position and the company so that you can make an intelligent decision about the job – and keep focused on “Getting a job offer”.

How To Resign With Class. Counteroffer Information - A MUST READ!

“You have been highly professional during an interview process and have landed a new job.”

Now it is time to be just as professional in resigning from your current employer. Make an appointment with your manager and prepare a brief letter of resignation. Your Peterson Consulting Group Recruiter can help with the wording. During the meeting calmly and concisely explain your decision and make it clear it is final. Retain your poise if the meeting becomes tense. Burning Bridges is not an option.

Be wary of a counteroffer. While it may be flattering, there can be drawbacks. Is the counteroffer a ploy to avoid short-term inconvenience? Will your career track remain blocked? Will you still be reporting to a person you distrust? Will your responsibilities be expanded? Have others who have accepted counteroffers in your company been fairly treated? Will you have to threaten to leave to get your next raise?

You MUST read PRIOR to resigning!
